There are three common methods of underfloor heating used in New Zealand.

The most common is underfloor heating electrical installation sandwiched between the floor and the final flooring product. A heating matt or cable can be used. This method is best for small areas such as bathrooms, and is preferred for renovations.

Another approach is to install heating cables within the concrete during construction. This in-concrete installation is the favored method when the entire floor needs heating. Nonetheless, it requires precise planning and can be challenging to correct if issues arise.

In New Zealand, another method of underfloor heating involves a water-based system with a gas-powered heater. However, this method has become less popular because it adds at least 10mm to the floor's thickness and due to the rising cost of gas.

Heatwell uses the method of electrical cable between the floor and the final flooring material.
