How much does underfloor heating installation cost in Auckland?

Heatwell's full installation price for a 450W underfloor heating cable with a thermostat in Auckland is $750 + GST. That 450W cable heats 3 square metres under tile or 4.5 square metres under carpet. Please note that $750 + GST is our minimum full installation charge. All areas that require 450W or less will have a price of $750 + GST.
Larger areas are priced on the wattage of the cable needed. Heatwell will need to determine the square metres of underfloor heating required and what the final flooring product is going to be. If you need a firm price, please contact us. Heatwell provides a free no obligation quote.
What determines the price of an underfloor heating installation?
There are several factors Heatwell will consider:
The square metres of heating required comes. Underfloor heating does not go under anything permanently fixed to the floor, so vanities, built-in cabinetry, baths and shower trays come out of the calculation.
The floor covering decides the wattage per square metre, and the wattage decides the cable. Heatwell always quotes 150W per square metre under tile, 180W under slate and stone, 120W under engineered wood, composite wood, vinyl, LVP and lino, and 100W under carpet. The same floor area costs more under stone than under carpet because it needs nearly twice the cable.
The thermostat is usually part of the price. Usually Heatwell installs its own HT4 thermostats. The HT4t is Heatwells' heated towel rail option and is $40 more expensive. We do provide a price for installation of underfloor heating without the thermostat and for areas that are going to share a thermostat. Please note that Heatwell will not install a thermostat that is not our own brand.
Floor preparation is the variable that moves a quote most unpredictably. A sound, clean, level concrete floor needs nothing. A particle board or plywood subfloor needs tile and slate underlay, 6mm insulation sheeting, or an anti-fracture system built into the waterproofing before anything else happens. Old tiles, old carpet glue and an uneven slab all add work before the cable goes down. Heatwell does not do floor preparation. That is the job of your builder or tiler. If Heatwell needs to do some remedial floor preperation, there will be an additional cost.
What is included in the price?
The underfloor heating cable, the fibreglass mesh, the self-levelling compound, the thermostat, and the labour. Thermostats are included in full installations. The thermostat connection is included, and will be done by a registered electrician who issues the code of compliance. Is it cheaper to install underfloor heating myself?
Yes, the savings are in the labour, the travel cost and the code of compliance certificate. Heatwell sells Pro Series and Gold Series cable and complete kits to DIY installers, and has built a measuring app, installation videos and a step-by-step Best Practice guide to support them. What a DIY installer cannot do is the thermostat. All thermostat installations must be done by a registered electrician, with DIY thermostat installation voiding the warranty. Budget for an electrician regardless of who lays the cable.
How do I get a price for my job?
Heatwell quotes from a floor plan or the square metres. Email either and the quote comes back free. Heatwell does not need to come to site to be able to quote. We prefer a PDF plan with a scale or measurement, however, a handwritten note with measurements will be enough.
Does the price change for a renovation versus a new build?
No. The price is determined on the square metres of underfloor heating required and the final flooring product being installed. Heatwell insists on a clean prepared floor that is ready for underfloor heating installation. We do not do the floor prep.
Does Heatwell install outside Auckland?
No. Heatwell installs across greater Auckland, from Rodney to Franklin. Outside that area Heatwell supplies cable, thermostats and kits nationwide. Any quality electrician can connect a Heatwell thermostat.
Is there a minimum job size?
Heatwells' minimum underfloor installation is one sqaure metre or 150W. A 150W installation will cost our minimum charge of $750 + GST.
