Before installing underfloor heating, it's important to consider the insulation level of your final flooring product. A flooring material with high insulation will trap the heat beneath it, diminishing the heating's effectiveness.
Typically, underfloor heating can be placed beneath tiles, slate, stone, carpet, carpet tiles, vinyl, vinyl planks, and engineered (machined) wood. The thicker the flooring material, the higher the Watts per square meter needed for effective heating.
Underfloor heating is not suitable for natural wood floors, as timber acts as a good insulator and can warp when exposed to heat.
